ReplyDeleteIn Junot Diaz’s novel “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao”, the author uses a solemn plot structure to show why love should not become obsession. In the 1st chapter of the novel, Oscar fell in love with a girl he meets while taking his SAT named Ana Obregón. However, Ana’s ex-boyfriend, Manny, come back from the Army. Oscar new Ana still had feelings for Manny, but he still tried to become a couple with her. Oscar’s obsession with love prevented him from giving up on an already lost cause. When he finally confessed how he felt about Ana, the unexpected happened. Ana rejected Oscar, saying she already had a boyfriend. Oscar has had horrible luck with women for several years, so when he finds one that didn’t mind his obesity and love of science fiction, he believed that she would be the one that would accept him as a boyfriend. Oscar’s obsession with love is what leads to him being rejected and heart-broken by Ana. Falling in love isn’t a terrible feeling, but when that love becomes obsession, it will only end in pain. A person needs to know when he has to give up on a girl. There are always more flowers in this garden of life.

The novel opens with a father and son sleeping outside in the cold. The father awakens from a dream of him and his child in a cave, facing a huge, nameless creature that eventually runs away into the dark. At dawn, the father (who, along with the son, remains nameless throughout the novel) surveys the landscape, trying to decide where they will travel next. He is unsure of month or day, because "he hadn't kept a calendar for years.
In a post-apocalyptic world in a near future, a man and his young son wander heading to South seeking good people through destroyed roads. Along their journey, they hide themselves from cannibal survivors and seek supplies in the debris of houses and stores. They have one revolver with two shells for self-protection or for an ultimate decision of committing suicide. The man recalls the good moments of his life with his wife and begins to lose his humanity while his son pushes him to help and old man and a thief.

In the Novel Frankeinstein, by Mary W. Shelley, she creates a confused character, Frankeinstein, who encounters a man vs. self conflict of trying to please everyone and failing at it, so he choses revenge for his maker. Frankeinstein, like many people, try hard to fit into society's statuses, and when realizing it was near impossible, he had to blame someone for his faults and short comings. In todya's world, this occurs very often. Instead of accepting the way they are people become angry with the world insted of embracing thier differences and enjoying life. Frakeinstein was a sweet and intelligent moster, but because of how he looked, things were'nt easy for him. People did'nt accept him for who he was. instead they pointed out his flaws. His ambition for accepteance was so strong that when he did'nt acheive it, he went on a rampage to hurt the creator of his species. What frankein didnt know was his creator encountered the same experiences. In the novel it states, he felt like a child picking up sheels beside the great and unexplored ocean of truth." Victor, Frankeinsteins creator, was a "lost" child and wondered so much about everything. His curiousity set him apart from children which made him an outcast. In the novel it also states," i was indiffernt, therefore to my schoolfellows in general; but I united myself in the bonds of the closest friendships to one among them." So the main reason for him too create Frankienstein was to create a compainion. What Frankeinstein didnt understand was Victor didnt care how hel looked he loved him regardless.

ReplyDeleteIn the novel "Frankenstien" By Mary Shelley, the aurthor creates man vs man conflict between Victor and his craetion Frankenstien. Victor Frankenstein creates a monster named after him because he is lonely. Victor is pulled into a man Vs man conflict when his creation, Frankenstien, comes back to kill him because Frankenstien is not accepted into society and feels like an outcast which he believes is Victors fault. Victor doesn't want to kill his creation because he feels lonely and at one time was proud of his creation, but over time Victor realizes his creation wants him dead, so he has no choice but to fight back.Victor is pulled between getting rid of the only thing that made him happy, or getting back at someone that wants him dead. Victor only created Frankenstien to have someone around him, Victor didn't care about how the creature would look or if it would be accepted into society. Basically, Victor didnt judge someone by how they looked on the outside, he only careed about how they would trat him, which is basically how some people are today in our society.
In the story “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein’s demise illuminates the idea of how the irresponsibility of a person for their own creation will eventually catch up to them and ultimately lead to their demise. Throughout the story, the monster is killing Frankenstein’s family out of spite and revenge. This leads to Frankenstein’s thirst for revenge on his own creation, and follows him all the way to the North Pole to kill him, where Frankenstein himself eventually dies. The irony is that the monster actually gives Frankenstein a chance to prevent all these murders, he simply asks for a partner. Frankenstein selfishly refuses and flees. Here Frankenstein Is being careless for the safety of his own family and himself, he fails to learn from the murder of his younger brother. Although the monster isn’t technically a human, he still has human attributes. He is clearly flawed so when he commits the murders he does it out of spite and anger, showing how unprepared Frankenstein was when he created the monster. Frankenstein does it for the sole purpose of science, playing the role of god and creating life. Unlike the monster though, when Frankenstein seeks his revenge he is unsuccessful and dies on his pursuit. This scenario could be connected to a real life situation, for example when a woman undergoes an abortion. These parents of this unborn child don’t take responsibility for their actions and take the easy way out, in Frankenstein’s case abandon it, get rid of the fetus. This of course comes with the consequences of remorseful thoughts, medical expenses and moral degradation.
